Delboeuf illusion is an optical illusion between two objects of the same size but different backgrounds that makes one look smaller than the other even though they are similar. This illusion also affects us when we practice portion control in our meals. While comparing the smaller and larger plates with the same quantity of food, our mind perceives both situations differently. We think the larger one has less amount, thus emotionally triggering our mind to consume more. Whereas it’s the same quantity, we eat on a full small plate. Delboeuf illusion thus describes how plate and dish sizes can psychologically manipulate our minds to eat more than actually required. Study attached below.
